Which Heather am I?

Veronica Sawyer
29 BitchFactor, 57 OutThereNess
Are you a Heather? No, you're a Veronica. Sawyer. And a Veronica Sawyer is a fine thing to be. It really is. You can more than hold your own with the beautiful people, but you aren't afraid to stand up to them either. Not that you're always right, but you're more willing than your comrades to realize when you've messed up. In other words, you've got a conscience, which is a rare thing at Westerburg High, and even more rare when your job is being popular and shit. Nice going. Just don't let your passions get the best of you, or you might have to send your SAT scores to San Quentin instead of Stanford.

The Which Heather Are You? Test

p.s. The default birth year on the OKCupid tests is 1984. That makes me feel old.

Mother's day

A conversation with my grandmother yesterday:
Grandmother o' Dix: I'm tired of this heck woman. (referring to my mother)
Mom o' Dix: I'm the best heck woman you'll ever have. You won't get another heck woman like me.
Grandmother o' Dix: I don't need another one either.

What a heck woman is, we're not sure of. If y'all know, can you let me in on the secret?

In other Mother's Day news, I guess the secret's out in town that I have four dogs at home - I got a free strawberry shortcake for Mother's Day at lunch. With no child in tow. Or dog either. Although I considered trying to sneak Angus in as a seeing-eye dog. It would work if I didn't wear my contacts or glasses.

Rolling back prices

I've heard from several people that the new Wal-Mart in Rockingham is the "largest in the world." And I could not wrap my mind around that. What CEO in his right mind would put the LARGEST WAL-MART IN THE WORLD in a town best known for NASCAR racing and Bucky Covington? Who I ask you? The WORLD, y'all, is a big place. The entire Earth. It doesn't make sense. So I did some investigating. Here's what I found.
  • Rockingham WM - 203,000 sq ft
  • Mebane WM - 203,007 sq ft
  • Lexington WM - 203,084 sq ft
  • Greensboro WM - 203, 618 sq ft
  • Burlington WM - 203,818 sq ft
  • Charlotte WM - 204,622 sq ft
  • Raleigh WM - 218,647 sq ft
That's just in NC. Good grief. Granted, the store went from about 97,000 sq ft (old store) to 203,000, and maybe that just boggles the minds of the folks of Richmond County.
As my friend Mollie said, "Some folks think Rockingham IS the world, so I guess we can't blame them."

Baby baby

The new list of most popular baby names for 2005 is out. The Tiffanys(ies?) and Brittanys(ies?) have fallen from favor, and I'm not complaining. The current popular names are more Biblical (for boys) and "old school" for girls. Grandma Abigail or Grandma Shania....which do you prefer?

Feel a drunk comin' on

Not me. My dog Maggie. Who ingested enough windshield washer fluid to get herself pretty lit up. She was unable to get to her feet when I first found her. I thought she had gotten into antifreeze and rushed her to the emergency vet. Her bloodwork and urinalysis came back ok, so they kept her overnight. After thinking about what the vet told me, I looked at the bottle again - and it wasn't antifreeze. Thankfully.
Maggie was in good spirits when I picked her up this morning. Wish I could have said the same about me. After getting only about 2 hours of sleep, I was up at 5 a.m. to make the hour trip over to pick her up, the hour trip back to leave her at my vet, and the half hour trip back (over the same road!!!) to work. This is the shock and awe part - I haven't taken a nap yet. Y'all pick yourselves up off the floor.
Maggie is spending tonight at my vet's office, getting IV fluids. She may be well enough to come home tomorrow. Big thanks go out to all my Internut friends who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. I'm sending you hugs and Maggie's sending you non-toxic slurpies.

Cinco de Mayo

The $1.99 margaritas were darn good today.
Favorite moment of the day - our ESL teacher reading about the history of Cinco de Mayo during the morning announcements. She ended her speech with, "If the Mexicans could do it, you can do it on the EOG!"
(that's End of Grade test for the uninitiated)

My crimes against the gods must be something fierce

Dix: i just feel like Sisyphus with this whole mess
DG: i know. that's the stressful part.
Dix: i think it's worked out, and then it ROLLLLLLS back down the hill on me and i have to start over
Dix: one of these times it's going to roll over me and squish me
DG: no it's not.
DG: you will dodge it and get the hell out.
Dix: i'm trying to remember if i was good at dodgeball
DG: you will be fine. btw Angus is ADORABLE.
Dix: i was just reading Albert Camus' analysis of the myth of Sisyphus. boy, that will f*ck you up
DG: um, yeah.

Dix: arghhhhhh

Today's pick of the litter, email version

From the LMGC:
The internet is still very slow here today, I guess there must be a lot of cheaply paid members of the immigrant labor force that normally feed the squirrels that keep the internut running.
