All the way to Reno

The Reading First conference is in Reno this summer, and as of right now, I'll be going. It looks as if all day flights in and out are in order - ouch. We hoped we'd be able to get to Vegas for one day, but it's 450 miles away - double ouch.
On a related note - and the four readers who are feaks will get this - I'll be seeing the Minus 5 tonight, with everyone's favorite guitarist-turned-bass player, Peter Buck. I'll take pictures and video if I'm able.
You may get blog posts by phone if I'm really motivated. If not, you'll hear from me on Saturday!

From my friend

I've had a lot of "sufferness" lately, so I'm really glad to hear from him. Can't wait to get my hands on that money!

Dear Friend,

I'm happy to inform you about my success in getting the fund transferred to a Swiss Account with the cooperation of a new partner from paraguay who is an international business man.
Presently I'm in Paraguay for investment projects with my own share of the total sum. Meanwhile, I did not forget your past efforts and attempts to assist me in transferring those funds despite that it failed us some how.
Now contact my secretary, her contact is: Name: Miss. Joy Obasi Email: joyobasi4u@myway.com
Ask her to send you the total $850.000.00 (Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand US Dollars) which I kept for your compensation for all the past efforts and attempts to assist me in this matter. I appreciated your efforts at that time very much. So feel free and get in touched with my secretary Miss. Joy Obasi and instruct her where to send the amount to you.
Please do let me know immediately you receive it so that we can share the joy after all the sufferness at that time. In the moment, I am very busy here because of the investment projects which me and the new partner are having at hand.
Finally, remember that I had forwarded instruction to my secretary on your behalf to receive that money, so feel free to get in touch with Miss.Joy Obasi and she will send the amount to you without any delay.

With best regards
Mr Amadi Amadi.

All hail the word

Of weddings, cookies, and criminals

Mom o' Dix: The groom's parents paid for her wedding dress. His mother said they weren't sure if the bride's mother was going to help them out on the wedding, they were waiting to hear from her. But they went ahead and bought the dress. Five hundred dollars. And they're not sure if they're getting help paying for it. That's like not knowing how to swim and thinking you might be able to, but you're not sure, and just jumping on in the water anyway.

Mom o' Dix: I'll get you a pan for that.
Dix: I don't need one, I'm gonna eat the dough raw.
Mom o' Dix: Oh.
Mom o' Dix: (looking wistfully at the spoonful of raw dough) I thought I was gonna get a cookie.

Dix: They're going to start selling lottery tickets Thursday. Do you want to look online to see where they're going to sell them here?
Mom o' Dix: No, I don't care about that, I want to see where the sex offenders are.

Indie rock girl

What essential indie rock album are you?

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Take this quiz!

Where is Casey Kasem when you need him?

Dad o' Dix: (looking down at radio display in car) Is that John Tesh?
Dix: (choking on water) DADDY! That is John LENNON! ("Imagine" was on the radio at the time.)
Dad o' Dix: I don't know music, you know that.
Mom o' Dix: I have a tape of John Tesh one of my former piano students gave me.
Dix: I did not need to know that.
Mom o' Dix: Why not?
Dix: Just because. (pause) Daddy, they don't play John Tesh on the radio.
Mom o' Dix: Why not?
Dix: Because he's John Tesh.

Later....
Dad o' Dix: What's the name of that group, Nickelsworth, Nickelsomething?
Dix: Nickelback.
Dad o' Dix: And what's that song they sing?
Dix: Which one? They all sound alike.

And later still....
Dix: Daddy, do you know who that is on the radio?
Dad o' Dix: No, I can't tell.
Dix: Eddie Money.
Mom o' Dix: Does he sing Nickelback?
Dix: NO. His name is Eddie Money. He is completely different from the group called Nickelback.
Dad o' Dix: I want my nickel back.

Just because I can

And he lets me.

Frankengrannie

My grandmother fell at the nursing home Wednesday night, cutting a gash in the back of her head. She's OK now, and seems none the worse for having seven staples in her noggin. I always knew she was a hardhead - and this apple didn't fall far from her tree.

Advance notice

TA has posted the setlist for tonight's show at the Raleigh Music Hall. I can just take my CDs and make my own show since I won't be making it there. Except for the "God Hates You" song - wtf is that one?

A big Blogger welcome

To Hezalin, who now has her own blog - hooray!

How am I supposed to go back to sleep after reading this?

The selected works of J.J. Redick - not keyboard safe.
My *favorite* line: My mind and body united like the Colors of Benneton.
You just can't make this stuff up.

Sweet!

Last week was a stressful one in Dixieville and this week was beginning to follow in its footsteps. Until I came home and found this DVD in my mailbox. Big thanks go out to the DivaGeek and Hezalin (who needs her own blog, dammit) for caring enough to send the very best. :)

To make my next poncho from Lion Brand Incredible yarn in the shade called Aquarium. The swatch doesn't do the yarn justice, however.

Three years on

Since I saw this sign at about 1 a.m. and wanted to stop and kiss the ground. Home never looked so good.

Pearl

Visited my grandmother at the nursing home on Saturday. She is in the Alzheimer's unit for her safety. There are good days, there are wobbly days, and then, there are days like this....

Dix: (pulling on bed guardrail - up, down, and all around) I can't get this thing down.
Mom o' Dix: Move and let me try (pulls unsuccessfully also). How are you supposed to get this thing down?
Grandma o' Dix: Pull the button, Hazel! (referring to her sister-in-law, who was 25 miles away)
Dix: (pulling on the button and the rail) I can't get it to work. I don't know what to do to it.
Dad o' Dix: Let's see if we can get this one down (guardrail on the other bed).
Daddy and I turned to the other bed to work on it, while my mother headed to the hallway to get some help. Before we could do anything more, my grandmother went over to the bed and fixed the rail, lowering it with ease. We looked at her, very surprised.
Mom o' Dix: What did she do? How did she do that?
Dix: She pulled the button, Hazel!

And later...
Grandma o' Dix: Where's Lee sitting? (asking about her deceased oldest sister)
Dad o' Dix: Yoohoo, I'm right over here! (waving to Grandma)
Grandma o' Dix: (leaning past Dix and looking at Dad) That ain't Lee, that's Al! (dead sister's husband)
Raucous laughter ensued from Mom o', Dad o', and Dix.

For a brief time, I had my grandmother back.
