Tie another one to your back

Had to go to the chiropractor today. After walking miles and miles on the Strip and in the casinos in Vegas, lugging 100+ pounds of luggage to the airport and from the airport Thursday and Friday, the straw that knocked this camel's back out was simply bending over to get clothes out of the dryer.
After going through a day and a half of pain that wasn't alleviated by standing, sitting, reclining, or walking, I caved and decided to get some help.
I like my chiropractor, who was recommended by my mother. He's helped her with several back pain issues in the last couple of years. As he examined my x-rays, he revealed to me that I am "ahead of my time." Like I didn't already know that. Everyone is supposed to have five lumbar vertebrae. Some folks have a malformation and have six - y'all are called "prehistoric". Some folks, including me, have a malformation and have only four - we are called "futuristic".
Evolution, y'all. And the Flying Spaghetti Monster had nothing to do with it.

My place in the universe

Your Score: Sad Cookie Cat

61% Affectionate, 36% Excitable, 75% Hungry

You are the classic Shakespearian tragedy of the lolcat universe. The sad story of a baking a cookie, succumbing to gluttony, and in turn consuming the very cookie that was to be offered. Bad grammar ensues.

It's a dry heat

But then again, so is an oven. A few pictures from the trip so far...

P.S.

I am home sick today because the jackass substitute doctor gave me allergy medicine on Monday for what was the beginning of a sinus infection. I leave for Las Vegas on Saturday and I really don't like the prospect of a sinus infection combined with a long flight.
I am 35 years old, I have had sinus problems as long as I can remember, I've had asthma for ten years - I THINK I know the warning signs, but hey, I don't have the MD after my name, so my opinion doesn't count.
So I'll go back to the doctor today and hope to get some antibiotics to get rid of the sinus pressure, headaches, sore throat, and coughing. And if the sub-doc is there, I will resist the temptation to snatch his glasses off and break them in half.

It was 20 years ago today

...that I attended my very first concert - Duran Duran (Erasure opened) at the old Charlotte Coliseum on Independence Boulevard (shoutout to the DivaGeek's old stomping grounds) on their "Strange Behaviour" tour to support the "Notorious" album. I think I still have the ticket stub somewhere, and I vaguely remember the ticket (plus service fees) being less than $20. Which seemed, to an unemployed almost-16 year old in 1987, to be a LOT of money. I bought a shirt and a tour program - they're somewhere at my parents' house as well.
Thanks to Blockbuster's Total Access program, I've was able to watch D2's "Sing Blue Silver," "Arena," and "Live from London" in the past week. That prompted me to several productive hours (!) of Googling, in which I found that there are tons of Duran bootlegs in existence. They don't seem to be as easy to get as those for R.E.M., the DBTs, or Ryan Adams, but they are out there. So now you know my newest challenge.

Cameraphonewhore

It's only taken 11 months, but I've finally managed to get my photos downloaded from my phone. Not all the photos are that old, but the first ones are. The motivation came from the PHS/DBT show at the HOB in Myrtle Beach. They won't let you take a camera in, but they can't stop you from taking photos with your cameraphone.
So, after ordering a cable to connect the phone with my laptop (thank you, eBay) and downloading Motorola Phone Tools, I was ready to go. I thought. Turns out MPT won't work with my phone, even though the internets said it would. I then placed an order online for Kyocera Phone Tools, guaranteed to work with my phone. The CD is on its way. An hour later, again, thanks to the internets, I tried BitPim software and after several tries, the laptop recognized the phone. I'm not an expert with it, and the most I can do right now is to download the photos, so for what I want and need, I'm happy with BitPim, plus it was free.
The accompanying photo was taken as I was driving (!) to work one morning. I'm all for the DOT (Dept. of Transportation for you non-NC folks) saving money, but the lame-ass attempt to change a sign from "UNMARKED" to "UNEVEN" pavement without taking the inflectional ending off makes me wonder about someone's competence.
